Back in the early 00's my other bands Iapetus and Bleego split up and I began to record more music solo. Around 2008 I used the Paint By Numbers name to release this album amongst a small group of friends. It was my first record entirely composed and produced mostly using outboard gear.

The sounds are largely those of the Korg EMX-1 and ESX-1. Other layers have been overdubbed, but those devices drove not only the sound but the melodic composition and encouraged me to get out of my comfort zone and write dance tracks. My inspirations were 90's dance music and 80's video game scores, specifically the Megaman series.

The quality of the original mix and master made me hesitate on a broader release, and I moved on to new things. A few years ago, I stumbled upon the old Ableton mix sessions, with all source audio and midi recorded from the Electribes fully intact. I went through a painstaking process of remixing and rerecording some overdubs to try and squeeze as much quality out of these songs while keeping to the original sound as much as possible. I am extremely happy to finally share these tracks, some of the best music I've written, with you now.
